Determined Dowager Empress

I am Livia, aged 63, the dowager empress.  My husband was the emperor Degenerus.  Both Lustrous and Caligula are my grand children, Lustrous by my son Nero and Caligula by my daughter. Caligula’s parents died when he was a baby, and I have been responsible for raising him.  Some people say I have spoilt him.  It is true he can be wayward.  But never with me.  I am the one person he is afraid of!

I am a very strong willed lady.  In public I played the dutiful, meek and obedient wife to my husband, turning a blind eye to his debaucheries as a good wife should.  However in private mine was the ruling brain.  As long as I did not interfere with his pleasure, on all other matters he was happy to take my advice.  It was easier than having to think for himself!

My oldest grandson, Lustrous, is a moderniser.  He rules in a very different style to that which I am used to.  Although I realise that times change and there must be progress, my heart aches for the way of life I knew when I was empress.

Carnality has never appealed to me.  However I do have an eye for beauty.  The slaves who serve me in my villa are all incredibly handsome young men.  Recently I gave one of them, my musician Byronicus, as a gift to Lustrous.
