The Chief Investigator for this game can either Madame de Pompadour, the king's one time mistress or Athos, former leader of "The Four Musketeers".

MADAME DE POMPADOUR,
The king's one time mistress.  A cultured courtesan.

I am Madame de Pompadour, aged 35, once the principal mistress of Louis XV.  I held the position for many years and in that time I had two illegitimate sons sired by the king.  I was able to hold Louis’ attention not only with my beauty, but also with my intelligence, wit, charm and tact.  I am a very cultured lady, having a broad range of knowledge and interests.

Although subsequent mistresses have supplanted my position in his bed, Louis still values me as an old and trusted friend.  Realising that I have not only the intelligence, but also the discretion to sort out affairs at Château Meutre, he has summoned me from Paris to investigate.  To assist me I have brought along other ladies from the court who are renowned for their intelligence.  It so happens that most of them have been Louis’ bedfellows too!  Sometimes at the same time!  And in case things get rough, I have also brought along some of the famed king’s musketeers.  Together we will be working to solve the mystery of Marie Antoinette’s disappearance and Madame de Spicable’s murder.
 

ATHOS
Former leader of "The Four Musketeers"

I am Olivier d'Athos de la Frere, aged 46.  You may call me Athos.  In my youth I was the leader of "The Four Musketeers", the others being Porthos, Aramis and the young tearaway D'Artagnan.  Being the eldest, I acted as a father figure to them, advising them and using my brains and influence to try and keep them out of trouble.  However despite my seniority, I could still drink them all under the table!

I have now retired from the musketeers, though my loyalty to the king is unquestionable.  Because of this, and because of my intelligence, King Louis XV has summoned me from Paris to investigate the affairs that are occurring at Château Meutre.  To assist me I have brought along some of my musketeer friends.  And, because the King of France is famed for having the most beautiful and cleverest mistresses in Europe, I have brought along some of the ladies who have shared his bed.  Renowned for their intelligence, I am sure they will be able to help me solve the mystery of Marie Antoinette's disappearance and Madame de Spicable's murder.
