MISTRESSES AND MUSKETEERS INVESTIGATION PANEL

A group of the king's former mistresses and musketeers will be assisting either Madame de Pompadour or Athos to investigate the events at Château Meutre.  They will be questioning the nine suspects, hoping to discover secret relationships and dig out intrigue and skulduggery.  And they may also be assisting to find clues.  Finally two members of the investigation panel will be acting out "The Iron Mask" script.

The organiser of the game can assign any of the following characters to sit on the panel.

MADAME DE MONTESPAN

I am Madame de Montespan, aged 37, once the principal mistress of Louis XV.  During the time I was his mistress, I was known as “The true queen of France”.  The king was entranced not only with my beauty, but also my love of mockery, my infectious laughter, and my quick wit.  Also my gift of flirtation and that, as a supreme hedonist, I always put out!  This sensualism led to me having five royal illegitimate sons by him!

Unlike that tart Madame du Barry, I was born into one of the oldest and noblest families in France.

I am not a suspect in this murder.  Madame de Pompadour, appreciating my intelligence, has asked me to form part of her investigation panel.  I will be helping her to question the suspects, discover clues, and unravel the mysterious goings on at Château Meutre.

MADAME DU BARRY

I am Madame du Barry, aged 41, one time mistress of Louis XV.  The daughter of a seamstress, one of my first jobs was in the brothel/casino.  There I caught the eye of Jean Baptiste du Barry, a high class pimp who installed me in his household.  He helped me to establish my career as a courtesan, enabling me to take many aristocratic lovers.  Eventually King Louis XV made his way to my bed.  My talents were such that I was able to become his principal mistress for some time.  During that time I gave birth to a son sired by Louis.  However Louis not only liked me for my sexual talents, but also for my intelligence and easy going good nature.

I am not a suspect in this murder.  Madame de Pompadour, appreciating my intelligence, has asked me to form part of her investigation panel.  I will be helping her to question the suspects, discover clues, and unravel the mysterious goings on at Château Meutre.

LOUISE DE LA VALLIERE

I am Louise de la Valliere, aged 29, the one time mistress of Louis XV.  Unlike his other mistresses who were skilled practitioners of intrigue and cunning, I appealed to him because of my sweet nature and innocence.  I asked nothing of him but to love him.  I did not use my position to ask for favours for my friends and family.

I am not a suspect in this murder.  Madame de Pompadour believes that, being an innocent myself, my innocence and lack of intrigue will help me see through any lies and manipulations that the suspects try and throw in our eyes.  Therefore she has asked me to form part of her investigation panel.  I will be helping her to question the suspects, discover clues, and unravel the mysterious goings on at Château Meutre.

D'ARTAGNAN

I am D’Artagnan, aged 32, a young dashing musketeer, and the only one of the original four musketeers to still be in military service.  An excellent swordsman, I am impetuous, brave, and hot headed.  I am also very chivalrous.  I am horrified that the queen has been abducted and knowing this, Madame de Pompadour has asked me to assist with her enquiry.  I am not a suspect in this murder.  Instead I will be helping Madame de Pompadour to question the suspects, discover clues, and hopefully track down the whereabouts of Marie Antoinette and discover Madame de Spicable’s killer.

PORTHOS

I am Porthos, aged 42.  In my youth I was known as one of the four musketeers, the other three being my good friends Athos and Aramis, and the impetuous young D’Artagnan.  I was the extrovert of the group, enjoying wine, women and song.  An honest fellow myself, I can be pretty gullible. However my loyalty to the crown is unquestionable.  And I am very strong and excellent at all types of fighting.

I am not a suspect in this murder, but I am an old friend of Madame de Pompadour.  She has asked me to be part of her panel to investigate the mysterious goings on at Chateau Meutre.  Fearing we may be up against a dangerous and cunning foe, she thinks it will be a good idea to have someone on the panel who is full of brawn and muscle and is good with his fists.

ARAMIS

I am Aramis, aged 39.  In my youth I was known as one of the four musketeers, the other three being my good friends Athos and Porthos, and the impetuous young D’Artagnan.  My nature is a mass of contradictions.  I love intrigue, but am intensely loyal to my friends.  I am very ambitious, but never satisfied when I gain my desires.  As a musketeer I longed to be a cleric, despite the fact I subsidised my meagre musketeer pay with gold given to me by my many mistresses.  Yet when I retired from the musketeers and became an abbot, I then yearned for a soldier’s life!

I am not a suspect in this murder, but I am an old friend of Madame de Pompadour.  Knowing my taste for adventure and intrigue, she has asked me to be part of her panel to investigate the mysterious goings on at Chateau Meutre.  I will be questioning the suspects, discovering clues, and hopefully tracking down the whereabouts of Marie Antoinette and discovering Madame de Spicable’s killer.
