PAPER AND INK SAVING TIPS

All merrymurder game files now have been amended (where appropriate) so that they can be printed off in a way to save paper and ink.  Normally this will involve printing off two file pages to one page of A4 paper.  You can then fold each page in half, effectively making it a page of A5 paper with printing on both sides.

Instructions on how to do this have been given.  Also the files have been amended with extra sheets so that you do not end up with the final page of invitation/character booklet A printed on the same sheet of A4 as the first page of invitation/character booklet B.

For those of you who intend to print the items off normally (one file page to one page of A4 paper), print ranges have been given so that you do not have to print off these extra sheets.

You can see an example set of printing instructions below.

PRINTING OFF THIS FILE – SAVING PAPER AND INK

Within this file you will notice some promotional pages containing details about the other merrymurder games.  This is not gratuitous self promotion (honest).  They are necessary in case you decide to save paper and ink by using one of the following methods to print off the file.

Printing two pages to one sheet of A4 paper

Your printer should have a setting that allows you to print two pages to one sheet of A4 paper.  If you do this, the file will print off like this:

page 1

page 2

page 3

page 4

page 5

page 6

page 7

page 8

1st sheet of A4

2nd sheet of A4

3rd sheet of A4

4th sheet of A4

You can then fold each sheet in two (effectively making it a sheet of A5 with printing on both sides), and staple them together to make the character booklets.

However the promotional pages are needed because:

  • If the character booklet has an odd number of pages, an extra page is required to make it have an even number of pages.  Otherwise you would have a folded sheet of A5 with the final page of Character A’s booklet on one side and the first page of Character B’s booklet on the other.

  • If the character booklet has an even number of pages, two extra pages are required.  Otherwise the back of the assembled booklet would be displaying the character’s “Protestation of Innocence” for everyone to see.  Two extra pages are required to ensure that this information is hidden.

Printing on both sides of a sheet of A4

You may have a printer that can print on both sides of a sheet of A4 at once.  Alternatively, (if your printer has a very reliable paper feed), you may want to tell your printer to print all even numbered pages, then, once these have come off, load them back into the paper feed and tell it to print all the odd numbered pages on the back.  Either way, the file still needs the extra pages for the same reasons as above.

Printing on one side of a sheet of A4 only

If you print off the file normally, you can instruct it to print off the file without printing the promotional pages.  You will need to specify that it prints the following page ranges:

3 to 20

23 to 28

31 to 36

39 to 44

47 to 52

55 to 60

63 to 68

Alternatively you can just print off the file with the promotional pages.  That way your guests will be able to see the other merrymurder games, and may be tempted to host their own party.  To which you should be invited!
